While surfing some genealogy blogs this morning, I learned that the State Library of North Carolina has created a new and updated website for the text, An Era of Progress and Promise: Education and Religion in Post-Emancipation America, a book compiled by W.N. Hartshorn.
The new site is very well done. The whole book can be read, or you can browse by institutions or individiual biographies. On this blog, I’ve discussed Bishop Tyree, one of the individuals profiled in the book. Having a name index (along with locations) is extremely helpful to those looking at the book. After a quick look at the list, I see several other profiles of people from Nashville that I have not yet learned about.
